What does Surrey expect before demolition?
The City notifies WorkSafeBC of each demolition and renovation permit. WorkSafeBC requires a survey by a qualified person under OHS s. 20.112 before demolition or renovation, plus a written clearance report, and the owner submits the survey, clearance report and Notice of Project to WorkSafeBC before demolition (City of Surrey, Construction Site Health & Safety Expectations; Demolition Permit bulletin).
Renovating a pre-1990 building in Surrey: what do inspectors need?
Inspection areas and access paths must be free of building material debris and dust, and pipe or mechanical insulation that would restrict inspections must be removed (City of Surrey). That affects how renovation and abatement are sequenced. The 1990 date is the City's framing; the WorkSafeBC regulation itself has no building-age cutoff.
Where does the waste go?
Surrey is in Metro Vancouver, and Metro Vancouver facilities do not accept waste asbestos (Metro Vancouver).
