Safety & compliance
Safety and compliance, documented
We carry out work in accordance with the WorkSafeBC Occupational Health and Safety Regulation. This page sets out how we work, our crews’ certification and the records you receive.
Asbestos abatement licence
Since January 1, 2024, employers offering asbestos abatement services in relation to buildings in BC must hold a WorkSafeBC Asbestos Abatement Licence. Bowfinn Management Inc. is licensed by WorkSafeBC for asbestos abatement. The licence covers asbestos only; we also handle lead and other hazardous materials, under the OHS Regulation requirements that apply to each material.
Owners and prime contractors must confirm a contractor’s licence before abatement starts (OHS Regulation s. 6.2.3). We can provide our licence details on request.
Worker certification
Our asbestos abatement crews are trained and certified.
Before work starts
- We work from a hazardous materials survey by a qualified person (s. 20.112), or coordinate with your independent hazmat consultant to arrange one.
- A written exposure control plan and risk assessment for the work.
- A WorkSafeBC Notice of Project filed at least 48 hours before moderate- or high-risk asbestos work, and where lead work requires it.
- Containment, phasing and occupant notices agreed with your facility team.
During the work
- Restricted, signed work areas; negative-pressure enclosures with HEPA-filtered exhaust and decontamination for high-risk work.
- Air sampling inside and outside the work area by your independent hazmat consultant, as the regulation and your project require.
- Wet methods, HEPA vacuums and sealed, labelled waste containers.
- Regulated systems isolated, tested and reconnected by tradespeople holding the required BC certification.
At closeout
- Clearance air testing by your independent hazmat consultant before the enclosure comes down, built into our schedule.
- Written confirmation by a qualified person that the identified materials were removed (s. 20.112(8)).
- Waste manifests from a licensed carrier to an authorized facility.
- Closeout documentation as the project requires, such as a scope summary, results, manifests and worker certifications.
